Job Summary
The Assistant Quantity Surveyor supports the pre-contract commercial team in delivering cost planning, cost estimating, and Bills of Quantities (BOQ) preparation for building and infrastructure projects in the Middle East. The role involves coordinating measurement activities, assisting in cost planning at various design stages, reviewing project documentation, and supporting tender preparation while ensuring compliance with international measurement standards.
The Assistant Quantity Surveyor also provides technical guidance to Junior Quantity Surveyors and contributes to maintaining cost accuracy and project budget control during the pre-contract stage.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist in preparing cost plans, estimates, and budgets while advising on design cost implications.
Prepare and review BOQs, ensuring compliance with standard measurement methods and alignment with drawings/specifications.
Carry out detailed quantity take-offs and measurements, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
Support tender documentation and procurement, including BOQs, pricing, queries, evaluations, and cost comparisons.
Review designs to identify scope gaps, inconsistencies, and cost risks, and contribute to value engineering.
Maintain cost databases, develop unit rates, and assist in preparing cost reports and benchmarks.
Coordinate with design teams and senior QS, while guiding and reviewing junior staff work.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering.
2–5 years of experience in quantity surveying or cost consultancy, preferably in pre-contract works.
Experience in building or infrastructure projects.
Strong knowledge of pre-contract cost management and BOQ preparation.
Ability to interpret architectural, structural, and infrastructure drawings.
Knowledge of standard measurement methods such as NRM, POMI, CESMM, and CSI.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and quantity take-off software such as CostX, PlanSwift, Revit, and AutoCAD.
Strong analytical and numerical skills with good written and verbal communication abilities.
